The Requinto Guitar

Love this guitar!  We just received a beautiful Paracho Elite requinto guitar.

The requinto guitar is often found in "trio romantico" and mariachi style bands.  The 6-string nylon string requinto has a  530 - 540mm scale and is tuned A D G C E A.  Similar to the ukulele C tuning (G C E A).  Requintos are often smaller than a classical guitar with a deep body.  "Trio romantico" groups typically have two other classical guitars or a  contrabass or guitarron.

Though the body and the neck are smaller, the deep body does not make it necessarily make it a better instrument for children who aspire to the guitar.  Come in a see how it fits.

  • Solid Cedar Top
  • Abalone Inlaid Rosette
  • Indian Rosewood Back and Sides
  • Gorgous Gloss Finish
  • Ebony & Ivory Striped Binding
  • 18 Fret Rosewood Fingerboard
  • High Quality Rosewood Bridge
  • 2-1/16 " Nut Width
  • 21-9/16" Scale

Make Your Heart Healthy

According to a new study, listening to music may help to lower your blood pressure. That's good for all of us who love music! This study, conducted by Japanese researchers, found that "people who took part in bimonthly group sessions built around music or laughter" lowered their blood pressure by "an average of five to six points after three months."

So being surrounded by your favorite music tunes can help your heart. NOVA Music Center just had its first jam session a few days ago. The event was successful with numerous people coming from various parts of Northern Virginia to jam with their guitars and ukuleles. Not only is the jam session beneficial to the musician who wants to learn and play more with other musicians, but it can also now lead to a healthier lifestyle.

There is always more room at NOVA Music for the next aspiring musician. Stop on in and say hello!

Is music dying?

Technology is both good and bad. People of all ages are now able to communicate in an instant without any sort of face-to-face contact. We can post our every move on Twitter. We can express our feelings on Blog spot. What does this all mean for the music world?

There is a growing concern in some parts of the music industry, both in traditional and non-traditional forms, that technology is not necessarily an asset to the music business. Jon Bon Jovi recently accused Steve Jobs, CEO of the Apple Corporation, of killing the music industry. In a way, Bon Jovi has a point. I am 22 and still treasure the moment that I purchased my first cassette tape. I was in a music store and had to have the Boyz II Men tape, but now, with the click of a button, I can purchase individual songs on iTunes. It is definitely a lot more convenient and provides immediate gratification, but what does it mean for the music world?

Even in the classical music industry, there is a call for symphony orchestras to become more innovative and creative. It is no longer the days to simply enjoy music for itself, but rather, there is a call to rise to the technology-driven occasion. With the constant barrage of information and sensations, the music industry must continue to think of new ways to make a musical spectacle which will attract patrons.
At NOVA Music, we treasure both the traditional and non-traditional forms of music and support the love of music in whichever form suits you the best. Let's show the music industry that the soul of the music is not defined by how many people purchase an album or attend a performance but by the heart of the musician and the willingness to jam wherever the jam needs to happen.
